The Knight Crusader is a pattern born of pragmatism, dispensing with the melee tradition that defines most Questoris Knights in favour of maximum ranged output. Where a Paladin or Errant carries a chainsword, the Crusader mounts a second heavy weapon in its stead, pairing armaments such as the battle cannon and the avenger gatling cannon to devastating effect. The result is a walking gun-platform that can saturate an entire sector with fire.
Some traditionalist houses regard the Crusader with faint disdain, for a Knight that will not close with its foe forsakes a measure of chivalric honour. Yet none can deny its lethality. The pattern is especially favoured by houses of the Code Martial, who care nothing for personal glory and everything for the efficient annihilation of the enemy.
On the battlefield, a Crusader anchors the household's firepower, standing firm behind its ion shield while it methodically dismantles the foe. Enemy war-engines that would relish a duel find themselves reduced to burning wreckage before they can ever come within reach of the Crusader's guns.
