The Devourers form the ravening front line of the XII Legion, assault troops named for their appetite, for ground, for blood, for the simple forward motion the Butcher's Nails demand of every son of Angron. Where other Legions field disciplined tactical squads, the World Eaters field the Devourers, warriors who still hold the shape of a battle-line but strain against it, hurling themselves at the enemy the instant an order, or an opening, allows. They carry bolter and blade both, but it is the blade they trust, and a Devourer engagement rarely stays at range for long. In the Great Crusade's final years they were the Legion's grim workhorses, the squads that took and held while the elite formations broke the foe. By the Heresy they had become something wilder, a tide of red and bronze that ate its way across the traitor Legions' battlefields and left silence behind.
