The Reclusiarch is the most senior of the Grey Knights' warrior-priests, the Chaplains who guard not the bodies of their brethren but their immortal souls. In a Chapter whose every warrior spends his life staring into the abyss and enduring the seductive whispers of daemons, the spiritual defence such priests provide is no mere ceremony but a matter of survival. Save for the Supreme Grand Master alone, none holds greater authority over the purity of the Chapter than a Chaplain.
Upon the battlefield the Reclusiarch is a pillar of unbending faith. He attunes his mind to those who fight around him, chanting litanies of hatred and devotion that pass psychically from soul to soul, so that no clamour of war can interrupt the sacred cadence. Under his watch the mental discipline of the Grey Knights holds firm, and the constant assault of the warp breaks harmlessly against their armoured certainty. It is a testament to the vigilance of the Chaplains that, alone among all the servants of the Emperor, not one Grey Knight has ever fallen to the corruption of Chaos.
Beyond the field of war, the Reclusiarch presides over the Reclusiam, the hallowed sanctum where the relics, banners and hard-won trophies of the brotherhood are enshrined. There he tends the memory of the honoured dead and the deeds of ages past, ensuring that every knight who takes up arms does so in full knowledge of the sacred weight of his oaths.
