Apothecary

A battle-surgeon of Titan who preserves the Chapter's sacred gene-seed and wards each implant against daemonic taint.

An Apothecary of the Grey Knights is far more than a battlefield healer. Trained in the deepest arts of Astartes biology, he walks the firing line to mend the wounded, drag the dying from harm's reach and, when a brother is beyond saving, to reclaim the most precious thing he carries. Using the narthecium mounted upon his gauntlet, he tends grievous injuries that would kill a lesser man; with the reductor blade he extracts the progenoid glands from the fallen, harvesting the gene-seed that binds every Grey Knight to the genetic legacy of the Emperor himself.

This grim duty is nothing less than the survival of the Chapter made flesh. The Grey Knights are few, their numbers never easily replaced, and every gland recovered from a corpse is a future battle-brother saved from oblivion. Were the Apothecaries to fail in their work, the silent halls of Titan would empty within a few short decades, and mankind would lose its last true bulwark against the daemon.

Yet the Apothecaries of the Grey Knights bear a burden unknown to their counterparts in other Chapters. Every implant they place, every organ they nurture within an aspirant, must be consecrated with ritual blessings that render the flesh itself a ward against the warp. In this way the purity of the Chapter is guaranteed not only in spirit but in the very marrow of its warriors, so that no whispering horror may ever find purchase within their souls.
