Prophets of Flesh

The Prophets of Flesh are the most feared of the Haemonculus Covens, ancient flesh-sculptors who regard the mortal body as raw material to be perfected through agony. Preservers of the deepest secrets of resurrection, they hold sway over life and death itself in Commorragh, and even the proudest Archons must bargain with them. Their creations — grotesque, immortal, and endlessly refined — are among the most horrifying weapons in the Drukhari arsenal.

The Haemonculus Covens are the oldest power in the Dark City, and the Prophets of Flesh are the most exalted among them. Their members are ancient beyond reckoning, having cheated final death so many times that their original forms are long forgotten beneath layers of surgical modification, grafted limbs, and preservative alchemy. To the Prophets of Flesh, flesh is a canvas and pain is a language, and they pursue the perfection of both with the patience of beings who have all the time in the universe.

The Coven's true power lies in its monopoly over resurrection. The Haemonculi alone can reconstruct a slain Drukhari from little more than a preserved fragment, restoring even the mightiest overlord to unlife. This makes the Prophets of Flesh indispensable, for every ambitious noble in Commorragh knows that a pact with a Haemonculus is the surest hedge against oblivion. The Coven extracts a fearsome price for this service, binding its patrons in webs of obligation that can span centuries.

In war the Prophets of Flesh unleash their unholy handiwork: shambling monstrosities stitched from stolen bodies, hovering engines of torment bristling with syringes and blades, and clutches of half-mad wracks conditioned to feel ecstasy in their own suffering. The Coven fights to gather fresh subjects for its experiments, and each battle is, to its members, merely another opportunity to refine the endless art of pain.
