Talos Pain Engine

The Talos Pain Engine is a hovering monstrosity crafted by the Haemonculus Covens, a nightmarish fusion of tortured flesh and cruel machinery that drifts across the battlefield dealing agony wherever it goes. Bristling with syringes, blades, and heavy weapons, it is both a weapon of war and a mobile instrument of torment. The Talos exists to inflict suffering, and its Haemonculus masters savour every wound it delivers as a small work of terrible art.

The Talos Pain Engine is one of the signature creations of the Haemonculus Covens, a floating horror that embodies the Drukhari fusion of surgical cruelty and lethal artistry. Constructed from surgically altered flesh grafted onto an anti-gravity frame, the Talos is neither wholly living nor truly a machine, but a purpose-built engine of pain that hovers into battle trailing a suite of grisly implements.

Each Talos is armed to deliver suffering in every form. Great clawed limbs and impaling blades rend those who come within reach, while banks of macro-scalpels and toxin injectors are designed to wound and prolong an enemy's agony rather than grant swift death. Heavier ranged armaments allow it to lash out at targets from a distance, though it is at close quarters, amid the screaming and the spraying gore, that the Talos truly comes into its own.

The Haemonculi who craft these constructs regard them almost as extensions of themselves, and a Talos is often accompanied into battle by its creator, who directs its horrors with proprietary glee. Slow by Drukhari standards but hideously resilient, the Talos can shrug off wounds that would destroy other units and grinds relentlessly forward, gathering the psychic anguish of its victims. To face a Talos is to confront the pure, distilled purpose of the Drukhari: the infliction of pain as an end in itself.
