Barak-Zilfin produces the finest aeronauts in the Mortal Realms, and Drekki Flynt is the one they tell stories about. Captain of the Aelsling, a frigate old enough to be a museum piece and modified far beyond the patience of any guild inspector, he specializes in the ventures sensible captains decline: lost seams, cursed skies, treasures that appear on no chart and in several warnings. His crew is a scandal of misfits by sky-port standards, and they would follow him off the edge of the map, which is usually where he is headed.

Flynt honours the Kharadron Code the way a duellist honours the rules of a knife-fight: expertly, and chiefly to know precisely how much he can get away with. Admirals grumble that he is one bad wager from disgrace; deckhands across the sky-ports know his exploits by heart and invent new ones whether they happened or not. Somewhere between the grumbling and the songs flies the truth of him: the luckiest, canniest, most exasperating captain the Windswept City ever produced, and, when the storm closes in and the endrins scream, exactly the one you want at the wheel.
