The Legion Spartan Assault Tank was a vast super-heavy transport able to carry an entire oversized squad or a full complement of Terminators into the teeth of the enemy, and the Word Bearers wielded it as an ark of their faith. When a bastion had to be stormed or a shield-wall broken, the XVII Legion packed a Spartan with its most fervent killers and drove it straight into the fire, trusting its immense armour to see the congregation within safely to the killing. Quad lascannons and heavy bolters cleared its path, but the Spartan's true offering was the tide of zealots it delivered, spilling from its ramp amid hymns and howled prayers. Its hull, like all the Legion's engines, was graven with holy script and hung with icons, a moving shrine that carried the word of Lorgar into the enemy's midst. To the faithful, to ride to war within it was an honour, a communion of steel that bore them to the slaughter their gods desired.
