The Ashen Circle were the iconoclasts of the Seventeenth Legion, jump-pack warriors whose sacred duty was the annihilation of rival belief. Where the Word Bearers came to convert, the Ashen Circle came first to erase, descending on roaring thrusters to cast down idols, burn temples, and put to the flame the books and histories of any faith that might contest the primacy of the Word. Armed with fire and with the heavy, axe-like sunder blades that shattered statuary as readily as armour, they waged war on memory itself, ensuring that a conquered people would have nothing left to believe in save what Lorgar's missionaries offered them. It was a doctrine of spiritual conquest as much as physical, and it made the Ashen Circle feared far beyond their numbers. When the Legion turned to Chaos, their torches were simply raised in the name of new and darker gods, their old work of unmaking faith now serving damnation.
