The Legion Land Raider Proteus was the elder pattern of the Imperium's mightiest battle-tank, prized as much for its sophisticated auspex and explorator arrays as for its formidable armour, and the Ultramarines fielded it as both assault transport and forward command vehicle. To a Legion that valued knowledge of the battlefield as highly as force upon it, the Proteus's ability to see farther and coordinate better was a virtue equal to its guns. It carried veteran squads and Terminators through punishing fire to strike at a chosen point, then lent its auguries to the wider battle, feeding a clearer picture of the fight back to the officers directing it.
