A Chaos Lord stands at the pinnacle of a Heretic Astartes warband, a warrior-king who has clawed his way to supremacy across centuries of the Long War. Few reach such heights through orderly succession; far more common is the path of murder and betrayal, for among the servants of Chaos advancement is most often bought with the blood of a rival. Those who endure are the strongest, the most cunning, and the most richly blessed by the Ruinous Powers, and they wear the mutations gifted to them as badges of dark favour.
Such a lord commands not through rank alone but through raw dominance, binding lesser champions, cultist rabbles, and even summoned daemons to his will by force of personality and the ever-present threat of violence. He arms himself with the finest spoils of ten thousand years of plunder, daemon-forged blades, master-crafted bolt weapons, and armour warded by profane rituals, and he wades into the thickest fighting to prove his mastery in blood.
Yet every Chaos Lord walks a razor's edge. The same gods who raise him up watch always for weakness, and the champions who kneel before him dream of the day they might take his place. He rules a court of knives, where loyalty is a convenient fiction and only strength commands respect. To falter is to be torn down and forgotten; to triumph is to draw ever nearer the ultimate prize, ascension to daemonhood and an eternity of unfettered power.
