Fabius Bile was once an Apothecary of the Emperor's Children, a Legion that fell to the temptations of excess and perfection during the Horus Heresy. Where his brothers pursued sensation, Bile pursued knowledge, turning his considerable genius toward the manipulation of flesh and gene-seed. In the ten thousand years since, he has become the foremost bio-artificer of the traitor hosts, a scientist whose curiosity recognises no law of god or man.
He styles himself the Primogenitor and believes, with cold conviction, that he alone can save humanity from stagnation and extinction by reshaping it into something stronger. To this end he has performed atrocities beyond counting: crafting monstrous new warriors, splicing xenos traits into human stock, and creating clones of the living and the dead. His notorious ability to reproduce and improve upon the Astartes gene-seed makes his services coveted even by warbands that despise him.
Bile is a walking contradiction, a being of immense intellect and equally immense cruelty who regards the suffering of his subjects as a trivial price for progress. He sustains his own ancient body through a battery of surgical and chemical means, and carries with him a fearsome array of tools, toxins and rejuvenat-craft. The Rod of Torment he wields can wrack a victim's nervous system with unbearable agony, and his enhanced physiology makes him a formidable combatant despite his scholarly bent.
He wanders the galaxy as a mercenary of the flesh, offering his skills to any who can meet his price, whether in slaves, specimens or forbidden lore. He has been hunted, betrayed and left for dead many times, yet always returns, for he has scattered clones and contingencies across the stars. To the Imperium he is a monster; to the warbands he serves he is an indispensable and treacherous ally; and to himself he is simply the one man clear-sighted enough to do what must be done. Cold, curious and endlessly patient, Fabius Bile is the surgeon of the damned, forever chasing his terrible vision of a perfected humankind.
