Not every Chaos Space Marine hungers for the visceral thrill of the melee. Some find their calling in the disciplined delivery of overwhelming firepower, and these warriors form the Havoc squads that anchor a warband's battle line. They wield an array of heavy weapons, from rapid-firing autocannons to lascannons capable of gutting tanks and missile launchers that spit death across the field.
Havocs take a grim, methodical pleasure in destruction. Where assault troops revel in the screams of the dying up close, Havocs savour the wider carnage: enemy formations blown apart, vehicles reduced to burning wrecks, gunships tumbling from the sky. They favour elevated positions and prepared firing points from which they can bring their heavy armament to bear.
Corrupted like all their kind, many Havocs bear the mutations and marks of Chaos, and some fuse with their weapons over the long centuries until gun and gunner are difficult to tell apart. In the calculus of a Chaos assault, they are the hammer of firepower that clears the way for the blades that follow.
