Serberys Raiders

Serberys Raiders are the outriders of the forge worlds, Skitarii horsemen mounted upon the mechanical quadruped steeds known as Serberys walkers. Ranging far ahead of the main cohorts, they scout the ground, sever enemy lines of supply and harry the foe with galvanic carbines and long mag-lances. Swift, disciplined and untiring, they are the probing claws with which a Mechanicus army feels its way toward the throat of its enemy.

War upon the scale waged by the Adeptus Mechanicus demands eyes and speed, and both are provided by the Serberys Raiders. They ride to battle upon Serberys steeds, cybernetic quadrupeds built in mockery of the horses of ancient Terra, tireless engines whose clawed limbs carry their riders across broken ground at punishing pace. Upon these mounts the Raiders range far beyond the trudging Skitarii lines, mapping the battlefield and returning its secrets to the calculating minds of the Tech-Priests.

The Raiders are reconnaissance troops first, but they are far from defenceless. Each bears a galvanic carbine, a compact cousin of the rifles carried by Skitarii Rangers, and many couple it with a long mag-lance whose crackling head can spit the enemy upon a lance of magnetic force at the charge. Their mounts add their own savagery, striking with piston-driven claws, so that a squadron of Raiders can fall upon an exposed foe with sudden and lethal weight before wheeling away into the dust.

In the doctrine of the forge worlds the Raiders are a tool of tempo and disruption. They seize vantage points, run down fleeing skirmishers and sever the arteries of an enemy advance, forever probing for the weakness that the main cohort can exploit. Silent but for the whine of servos and the drum of mechanical hooves, they embody the cold, relentless momentum of a Mechanicus war-effort in motion.
