The Dreadclaw Drop Pod was an assault craft of the Legiones Astartes, a more sophisticated and versatile cousin of the standard drop pod capable of both orbital insertion and independent flight. Its distinctive segmented hull unfolded like a clawed hand upon landing, disgorging a squad of Space Marines or a Dreadnought into the thick of battle, whether upon a planet's surface or the deck of a boarded voidship.
Unlike the one-way standard pod, the Dreadclaw possessed its own propulsion and could relaunch to strike again, making it a reusable and prized asset. Yet its machine spirit was known to be wilful and difficult to control, a temperament that grew more pronounced and unsettling as the corruption of the Heresy spread through the traitor Legions' war machines.
The craft became especially associated with those who fell to the Warmaster's cause. The Sons of Horus deployed Dreadclaws in their lightning boarding assaults, while the plague-touched Death Guard used them to descend upon their enemies with grim, relentless purpose.
