Voidship

A Voidship is any of the colossal vessels that ply the darkness between the stars, the sole means by which the far-flung worlds of the Imperium remain connected across the immensity of the galaxy. From humble system traders to the towering battleships of the Imperial Navy, these craft are cathedrals of iron and plasma, crewed by thousands and often larger than cities.

The greatest voidships are ancient beyond reckoning, their hulls sanctified relics passed down across millennia and tended by generations of crew who are born, live, and die within their groaning decks. To traverse the warp, such vessels rely upon a Gellar field to hold back the horrors of the immaterium and a Navigator to steer through its treacherous tides toward the light of the Astronomican.

Without voidships, the Imperium would fracture into ten thousand isolated worlds within a generation, for they carry the regiments of the Astra Militarum, the tithes, the pilgrims, and the word of the Emperor. They are the arteries of a galactic civilisation, and their loss is a wound that can never truly heal.
