The Deimos Rhino was the earlier pattern of the Legiones Astartes' ubiquitous armoured personnel carrier, distinguished from the later Mark by its more angular hull and forward-mounted, offset driver's cupola. Throughout the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy it served as the backbone of Legion mechanised warfare, ferrying squads of Space Marines swiftly and safely across the battlefields of a galaxy being reforged in fire.
Durable, simple to maintain, and adaptable, the Deimos Rhino chassis formed the basis of an entire family of specialised vehicles, from support carriers to command variants. Its enclosed troop compartment protected transported warriors from all but the heaviest enemy fire, while its powerful engine allowed it to keep pace with rapid advances.
Every Legion relied upon the pattern in staggering numbers, and its silhouette became inseparable from the image of the Legiones Astartes at war. The Sons of Horus and World Eaters alike surged forward behind ranks of these transports, delivering their warriors into the close-quarters slaughter both Legions favoured above all other forms of battle.
