The Poxmongers

The Poxmongers are the Fifth Plague Company of the Death Guard, artificers of ruin who march to war behind a groaning host of daemon engines. Where they pass, the sky chokes with exhaust and the ground trembles beneath rusting tracks, every machine a shrine to Nurgle's ceaseless labour.

The Fifth Plague Company of the Death Guard is known across a hundred ruined systems as the Poxmongers, and of all Mortarion's formations none are so wedded to the daemon engine. Where their brethren trust to the slow tramp of infantry, the Poxmongers wage war behind a reeking wall of iron: Plagueburst Crawlers that vomit spore-shells over the horizon, Foetid Bloat-drones that drift on droning turbines, and Myphitic Blight-haulers that hunt in packs of three, the sacred number of the Grandfather.

These machines are more than mere war-gear. Each is a fusion of corroded metal and captive daemon, coaxed into being through rites of spite and long labour in the smog-wreathed foundries of the Plague Planet. The Poxmongers tend their engines as a gardener tends rotting fruit, feeding them offerings and murmuring the true-names of the Neverborn bound within, so that machine and daemon alike swell with malignant purpose.

In battle the company favours a grinding, remorseless advance, the daemon engines lurching forward in a bilious frenzy while Plague Marines shelter in their shadow. Their commanders are siegemasters and artillerists who measure victory not in ground taken but in ground rendered uninhabitable, until a defended world is nothing but a poisoned graveyard of shattered walls and settling ash.
