The Anvil of Beta-Garmon

Hael Corvath

The Horus Heresy

The senior Princeps of the loyalist Fire Wasps, bonded to an ancient Warlord, whose engine anchored the loyalist line through the Titandeath.

Hael Corvath was Princeps Maximus of the Legio Ignatum, the senior commander of the Fire Wasps and one of the most celebrated god-engine masters to fight for the loyalist cause. Bonded across long decades to an ancient Warlord Titan whose machine-spirit he knew as intimately as his own soul, Corvath was a master of the aggressive, close-pressed warfare his Legio favoured, hurling his engine into the decisive heart of a battle where its guns could do the most ruin. His fellow Princeps followed him not from fear but from a deep and earned respect, for Corvath had brought Ignatum through campaigns that would have shattered a lesser Legio.

When the Collegia Titanica fractured, Corvath never entertained a moment's doubt, and he led the Fire Wasps into the war's most terrible Titan-battles against the traitor Legios. At Beta-Garmon, in the great slaughter remembered as the Titandeath, he earned the name the Anvil, for it was around his engine that the loyalist line held when all seemed on the verge of collapse, his Warlord standing firm amid a storm of enemy fire and refusing to fall. He spent his Legio grievously in that war, engine after engine toppling into ruin, but he never yielded the field, and the Fire Wasps' honour endured because their Princeps Maximus would not let it die.
