Hexoatl, the City of the Sun, rises upon the western shore of Lustria where the light first strikes the jungle, and of all the temple-cities it is the one most swiftly roused to war. This is the seat of Lord Mazdamundi, mightiest of the living slann, and something of his restless will has soaked into the very stones: where Itza broods and Tlaxtlan gazes at the heavens, Hexoatl acts. Its saurus cohorts march at the first reading of a flaw in the Plan, and its skink priests carry the sacred fire of the sun-god into battle as living flame.
Hexoatl has need of its aggression. It stands nearest the coasts where the men of the New World scratch their doomed colonies, nearest the raiding-lanes of corsairs and the tunnels through which the ratmen boil up from below. Again and again the city has burned and been rebuilt, its pyramids scorched and its plazas fought over, and each time the slann have set it back in its ordained place upon the geomantic web. When Mazdamundi wakes in wrath, it is Hexoatl's legions that march first and farthest, and whole continents are said to have shifted at his command to see the Plan preserved.
