the Backstabber, Captain of Cutthroats

Gorduz Backstabber

A hobgoblin Khan who has survived a career of betrayal, flattery, and knives in the right backs — and fully intends to outlive his Chaos Dwarf masters.

Gorduz Backstabber has survived longer than any hobgoblin has any right to, and he has done it by living up to his name with unwavering dedication. A Khan of the Hobgoblin Slaver Hosts, he leads the treacherous auxiliaries who oversee the slave-mines and screen the Chaos Dwarf battle-lines — a position of rare privilege for one of his lowly race, and one he has kept through a long career of betrayal, flattery, and knives placed in exactly the right backs.

He is cunning where his masters are cruel, and cowardly where they are merely ruthless, and both have proven excellent survival traits. Gorduz has fled more battles than most captains have fought, abandoned more allies than he can count, and somehow emerged from each disaster richer and better placed than before — forever bowing and scraping before the dawi-zharr while quietly robbing everyone within reach.

The Chaos Dwarfs know precisely what he is, and value him for it. A hobgoblin one can rely upon to betray predictably is, in the strange arithmetic of Zharr-Naggrund, more useful than an honest one — and so Gorduz endures, grinning and duplicitous, at the head of his cutthroats. He fully intends to outlive his masters too, though he would never be so foolish as to say so anywhere an overseer might happen to hear.
