The stegadon is what the deep jungle produces when nothing is permitted to eat you for ten thousand generations: a horned, crested, armour-plated colossus with a temper that files every unfamiliar thing under threat. The Seraphon crown these beasts with fortified howdahs and batteries of bows and flame-casters, though most of a stegadon's argument is still made by the front end.
Skink crews goad their mounts toward the thickest of the fighting, which is rarely difficult, and merely steer thereafter. A stegadon's charge does not so much break a formation as retract the ground it stood on. Even the Thunder Lizard constellation, which reveres the great beasts as the Old Ones' favourite handiwork, has learned to worship from a certain respectful distance.
