In a species that trusts machines and ledgers over gods, the Grimnyr occupy a singular place. Where humanity's psykers are born of dangerous mutation, the Kin were given by their First Ancestors a specialised cloneskein, a deliberate gift of heredity, that awakens in a rare few and lets them touch the immaterium without being consumed by it. Those so marked are named Living Ancestors, and they are revered as keepers of wisdom, of memory, and of the sacred link to the Votann.
A Grimnyr's chief duty is communion. Using arcane interface technology, they alone can query a Kindred's Ancestor Core, posing the questions of law, war, and survival that others cannot, then interpreting the cryptic judgement that answers. In this they serve as sage, spiritual counsel, messenger, and living archive, the voice through which the accumulated inheritance of an entire people speaks to the living.
When a Grimnyr goes to war, they wield the warp with a caution unknown to other races. Barrier-tech dampens and directs the power they draw, and swarms of small drone constructs attend them, bleeding off the worst of the backlash so the Grimnyr may work their arts without dooming those nearby. Amid the din of battle they hurl crackling energies and ward their kin from harm. The foremost of their number, the Lord or high Grimnyr, sits upon the Votannic Council and is held to speak with the very voice of the Ancestors.
