Each tank was maintained as a sacred implement, its machine spirit honoured and its plating hung with votive drake-scale by the crews who served it across decades of war. In the attritional grind that followed Isstvan V, when the shattered XVIII could ill afford to lose a single hull, the Predator's blend of resilience and cleansing firepower let a handful of Salamanders hold ground that should have demanded a full company, buying the innocent time to flee the traitors' advance.
