When a wall would not fall to fire alone, the Salamanders answered with the Legion Vindicator, a heavily armoured siege tank built around a single monstrous demolisher cannon. Its short-ranged siege shell could reduce a rockcrete redoubt to rubble or gut a battle-tank in one thunderous detonation, and the XVIII deployed it to open breaches through which their patient infantry might advance under cover. True to their creed, the Salamanders sighted the Vindicator with meticulous care, for its cannon made no distinction between fortress and flesh and its crews would not see the sheltering innocent buried alongside the tyrants they hunted. Slow and short-legged, the tank relied on the resilience the Legion prized above all, grinding forward beneath a storm of return fire to plant its guns where they would break the enemy's line. Across the Heresy's endless sieges its dull roar became a promise that no rampart would stand for long.
