The lascannon is a heavy energy weapon that concentrates the laser technology of the humble lasgun into a single, armour-shattering blast. Instead of the light bolts fired by an infantry las-weapon, it discharges a searing lance of coherent energy powerful enough to burn through the hull of a battle tank or blow apart a heavily armoured warrior. Its deep, cracking report and the flash of its beam mark it as one of the Imperium's premier anti-armour weapons.
Because of its size and the immense power it draws, the lascannon is usually crewed by a team, mounted on a tripod, or fitted to vehicles and defensive emplacements. The regiments of the Astra Militarum field them in dedicated heavy weapons squads to hunt enemy armour at long range, while tanks and walkers across the Imperium carry them as turret and sponson armament.
Unlike shell-firing guns, the lascannon never runs short of physical ammunition, drawing instead on power packs and generators, which makes it dependable across the galaxy's most hostile war zones. Reliable, precise, and brutally effective against the toughest targets, it remains a favoured tool for cracking open bunkers, war machines, and monsters that lesser weapons cannot hope to harm.
