Where the wider Imperium regarded the flamer as a crude weapon of area denial, the Pyroclasts of the XVIII Legion elevated its use to a devotional art. Each bore a pyrum-petrol projector of their own forging, a weapon tuned and blessed until its flame burned hotter and clung longer than any mass-produced pattern, and each had walked the fire-rites of Nocturne until searing heat held no terror for him. In the press of battle a Pyroclast squad advanced as a moving wall of flame, cleansing trench, bunker, and boarding corridor of anything that dared shelter there. They fought without haste and without fear, trusting their master-wrought armour and their own hardened flesh to carry them through the inferno they created. To the traitor Legions that faced them during the Heresy, the sight of green-armoured warriors wreathed in fire became a promise that no fortification would hold and no ambush would go unpunished.
