Contemptor Dreadnought

The Horus Heresy

A warrior whose pursuit of perfection outlasted his flesh, interred within a war-engine of exquisite and lovingly decorated make.

A Contemptor Dreadnought of the Emperor's Children preserves a warrior whose pursuit of perfection outlasted the failure of his own flesh, an ancient interred within a war-engine of exquisite make. Even in undeath the III Legion's obsession endures, for these sarcophagi are wrought with a care bordering on vanity, their armoured shells decorated as lovingly as any living legionary's plate. To the Emperor's Children, a Dreadnought is not a diminishment but another form the pursuit of perfection may take.

Swift and lethal as befits the Legion's ideal, the Contemptor strides into battle with a grace that belies its bulk, its weapons wielded with the same exacting precision the living Legion demanded of itself. After the fall, many such ancients were driven half-mad by the sensory deprivation of their interment, craving the stimulation of battle as an addict craves his vice. Roused to war during the Heresy, they threw themselves into slaughter with a desperate, terrible joy, seeking in the chaos of combat the sensations their entombed existence otherwise denied them.
