The Swordsman

Lucius

The Horus Heresy

A prodigy of the blade consumed by the need to prove himself the finest swordsman alive, his vanity the perfect soil for Slaanesh.

Even among the Emperor's Children, a Legion that raised swordsmanship to a sacred art, Lucius stood out as a prodigy of the blade, a duellist of such vaunted skill that few in the entire Legion could stand against him. Vain, brilliant, and consumed by the need to prove himself the finest swordsman alive, he embodied the III Legion's perfectionism at its most personal and most dangerous, for his art was inseparable from his pride.

When Fulgrim led the Legion into treachery, Lucius followed without hesitation, and the corruption of Slaanesh found fertile ground in a warrior already obsessed with sensation and supremacy. Through the battles of the Heresy he sought out worthy opponents as a collector seeks rare prizes, each duel a chance to demonstrate a perfection he believed the galaxy owed him the chance to display. His skill grew ever more inhuman as the warp's gifts took hold, and defeat became, for Lucius, a fate literally worse than death. Those who bested him would learn that lesson too late, discovering that killing so proud a swordsman was a curse that did not end with the falling of his body.
