The Insurgent General

The Primus

The cult's supreme warlord, a hybrid bred for the moment of open revolt, whose superhuman prowess and tactical genius weld a thousand ambushes into one unstoppable insurrection.

The Primus is the war-leader of a Genestealer Cult, the martial counterpart to the prophet-Magus and, after the Patriarch itself, the mightiest figure in the brood's hierarchy. If the Magus is the Patriarch's right hand, whispering doctrine into the ears of the faithful, then the Primus is its warmaster and chief lieutenant, the cold tactician who will turn decades of patient preparation into a single, devastating act of rebellion.

A Primus is not grown lightly. The particular quirk of the Genestealer life cycle that produces one occurs only when the cult stands ready to cast off its disguise, triggered either when the brood's numbers swell to the critical mass needed to seize a world, or when a hive fleet at last looms upon the edge of the system. Its emergence is therefore an omen in itself, a sign that the long years of hiding are over and that the hour of open war has come.

Physically, the Primus is a paragon of the hybrid form, a largely humanoid warrior of prodigious strength, superhuman dexterity and unwavering focus, able to bring down foes twice its size with contemptuous ease. Yet its genius lies less in its own blade than in its command of the whole. It choreographs the uprising as though it were a single organism, meshing countless separate ambushes and assaults into one overlapping web of violence, each strike falling exactly where and when it will do the most harm.

Under a Primus, the disparate broods of a cult cease to be a rabble of fanatics and become an army that fights with one mind and one will. It leads from the front, its presence steadying the faithful and driving them to feats of coordinated savagery, and it seems always to anticipate the enemy's next move before it is made. To face a cult guided by a Primus is to discover, far too late, that every alley was a trap and every retreat a lure, and that the general who set them was among the deadliest warriors on the field all along.
