The Sire of the Brood

The Patriarch

The Patriarch is the ancient and monstrous origin of a Genestealer Cult, the founding genestealer swollen by centuries of feeding and psychic dominance into a towering horror. Hidden in the deepest sanctum, it is the wellspring of the brood's shared will, binding every hybrid to itself through an unbreakable psychic bond. Wise, malevolent, and terrifyingly strong, it is both the object of the cult's worship and the coiled heart of its power.

The Sire of the Brood

The Patriarch is the genestealer that began it all, the single alien intruder whose first infection seeded an entire cult. Where a purestrain genestealer is a swift and lethal predator, the Patriarch is something grander and far more terrible, a creature that has survived for generations, growing in size, cunning, and psychic might with every passing year. Its body swells to monstrous proportions, its claws lengthen into scythes, and its mind expands into a vast and dominating presence that overshadows the entire brood.

The Heart of the Cult

Every member of the cult is bound to the Patriarch by an involuntary psychic thread. It is the source of the shared faith, the wordless will that all hybrids obey, and the presence they revere as a god made flesh. From its hidden lair, often buried in the deepest reaches of a hive or mine, the Patriarch orchestrates the brood's slow conquest of a world, its desires transmitted through the Magus and understood in the marrow of every cultist. To be near it is to feel one's individuality dissolve into devotion, and even those who would resist find their thoughts bent toward its purpose.

The Patriarch's influence extends beyond its own brood. As a powerful psychic beacon, it and its cult help draw the attention of the Tyranid hive mind, marking their world as ripe for consumption. In this way the Patriarch serves a purpose it may not fully choose, acting as a herald of the Great Devourer even as it reigns as an unchallenged sovereign over its secret kingdom.

Wrath Unleashed

For most of a cult's existence the Patriarch remains hidden, too precious and too conspicuous to risk. Only in the direst extremity, when the uprising hangs in the balance or the sanctum itself is threatened, does it enter the fray. When it does, the effect is devastating. Faster than its bulk suggests and armed with claws that rend armour like cloth, it carves through the mightiest foes with contemptuous ease, its psychic presence lending fresh frenzy to every cultist in sight.

To behold the Patriarch in battle is to witness the true nature of the cult laid bare, an alien horror at the centre of what once seemed a mere congregation of the downtrodden. It fights with the accumulated malice of centuries and the unshakeable knowledge that its children will gladly die to shield it. Slaying a Patriarch is the only sure way to break a cult, for while the sire endures, the brood's will is one, and that will is bent wholly toward the coming of the Star Children and the doom they truly represent.
