The Voice of the Sire

The Magus

The Magus is the prophet and psychic mouthpiece of the Genestealer Cult, an early-generation hybrid gifted with formidable powers of the mind. Serving as the intermediary between the wordless Patriarch and the wider brood, the Magus translates its sire's will into scripture and command. A charismatic demagogue and potent psyker, it inflames the faithful, clouds the minds of enemies, and guides the cult's slow rise toward its false salvation.

The Voice of the Sire

The Magus is born of the cult's earliest and purest generations, closest to the Patriarch and blessed, or cursed, with a powerful psychic gift. Where the Patriarch's will is vast but wordless, the Magus gives it form and voice, shaping the sire's raw hunger into doctrine, prophecy, and command that the brood can follow. It is at once high priest, prophet, and general of the mind, the figure through whom the cult understands its purpose and its faith.

Prophet of False Salvation

As the keeper of the cult's scripture, the Magus preaches the coming of the Star Children with fervent conviction. It is a demagogue of terrible charisma, able to whip crowds into ecstatic devotion and to bind wavering hearts ever tighter to the brood. The faith it spreads is a beautiful lie, promising deliverance and dominion to the downtrodden masses even as it prepares them to be devoured. The Magus itself may or may not grasp the true horror of what it summons, but its belief is total, and it carries that belief to every corner of the cult.

Beyond preaching, the Magus wields genuine psychic power drawn from its bond with the Patriarch and the greater hunger beyond. It can cloud the perceptions of the Imperium's servants, sowing doubt and confusion among those who might expose the cult, and it can shield the brood's activities behind veils of misdirection. In the long game of infiltration, the Magus is an invaluable asset, smoothing the cult's path and blunting the suspicions of the authorities it hides among.

Power on the Battlefield

When the uprising erupts, the Magus takes its place among the broods as both spiritual anchor and psychic weapon. Its presence drives the faithful to greater heights of zeal, and its mind lashes out at the enemy with bolts of force, crippling illusions, and terror that unmans even hardened soldiers. It rarely seeks close combat, preferring to command and to unleash its powers from within the protective press of the brood, yet it is no coward, for its faith in the sire is absolute.

The Magus embodies the seductive danger of the Genestealer Cult, the way an alien parasite can wear the mask of a saviour and lead willing multitudes to their ruin. It is the honeyed voice that makes the horror palatable, the prophet whose every promise is a step toward annihilation. To silence a Magus is to strike at the cult's cohesion, but by the time an enemy identifies it, the prophet's words have usually already done their work, and the brood marches on toward the false dawn it has been taught to crave.
