Tomb Scorpion

A great construct of stone and enchanted bronze in the shape of a scorpion, that burrows beneath the sands to erupt among the enemy's rear ranks.

The Tomb Scorpion is a war-construct of the necrotects, a monstrous statue of black stone and bronze wrought in the image of the desert's deadliest hunter and bound with a fragment of a dead spirit to give it terrible purpose. Unlike its fellows it does not march in the battle-line but beneath it: interred in the sands, it senses the tread of the living overhead and tunnels toward them, bursting from the earth in a shower of grit amid the enemy's rear ranks where it is least expected and least welcome. Its great claws crush men inside their armour, and its barbed tail strikes with a venom of old magic that stills the heart of anything it pierces. Blades that shatter its stone shell only seem to enrage the spirit within, and a broken Scorpion will drag itself onward on ruined limbs to keep killing. The Liche Priests deploy them as living ambushes, patient beneath the dunes for as long as it takes, until the moment the sand erupts.
