Carrion are the great vultures of ancient Nehekhara, the scavengers that once feasted on the battlefields of the god-kings and were embalmed and entombed for it, so that they might serve their masters beyond death as they had served them in life. Risen now, they are grim, tattered things, huge skeletal birds bound in dried flesh and grave-wrappings, wings spanning wider than a horse is long, wheeling high above the Tomb Kings' silent legions on the updrafts of desert air. They are the army's eyes and its stooping wrath, gliding tirelessly until the will of a Liche Priest sends them plunging down upon war-machine crews, archers, and the vulnerable flanks of the enemy. Talon and beak tear at the living, and there is a particular horror in being set upon by a thing that should be picking your bones, not hastening the meal. Silent but for the dry rush of their wings, the Carrion circle every Nehekharan battle like a verdict waiting to fall.
