Kavalos Deathriders are the momentum of the Ossiarch war-machine. Rider and steed alike are constructs, needing no rest, fodder, or kindly ground, and a Deathrider charge is calculated like siegework — aimed by Mortisan artifice to strike the precise seam of an enemy line with bone-splintering force. Squares that would hold against living cavalry simply cease to be formations.
It is after the battle breaks that the Deathriders earn their name. They ride down the fleeing not in bloodlust but in accountancy, for every escaped body is stolen tithe. The souls poured into the steeds were drawn from the great horse-tribes of Shyish, and some Mortisans claim those spirits remember running beneath a living sun. If that is true, then the pursuit is the only joy left to them — which may be why it never ends.
