Lofnir

A lodge of Ghur that venerates the magmadroths as sacred kin of Vulcatrix, raising more of the great fire-drakes than any other. Lofnir's droth-herds and their beast-bonded riders make the lodge's fyrds slow to muster and terrible to meet.

The Lofnir are the drake-keepers of the lodges, dwelling in the beast-haunted wilds of Ghur where the land itself is a predator and only the mightiest of monsters commands respect. They venerate the magmadroth above all — the volcanic fire-drake they hold sacred as kin to Vulcatrix, the Ur-Salamander whose death alongside Grimnir birthed the ur-gold — and they raise more of the great beasts than any lodge in the realms.

To bond with a magmadroth among the Lofnir is not the rare honour it is elsewhere but the central rite of the lodge, and their beast-handlers begin young, matching duardin to hatchling and letting a lifetime of shared fury weld the two into one weapon. This devotion carries a price they pay gladly: a fyrd built around droth-herds is slow to raise and slower to march, and the lodge is often the last to reach any war.

It is, however, worth the wait to those who hired them and a catastrophe for those who did not. When the Lofnir finally come, the ground shakes with the tread of a dozen fire-drakes at once, each a walking eruption ridden by a rune-scarred lord. The Lofnir believe that in loosing the magmadroths they loose a fragment of Vulcatrix's own wrath — and that every foe burned to slag is a prayer to the fire that made their god.
