The Battlesmith is the chronicler and standard-bearer of a Fyreslayer lodge, charged with a duty the mountain-folk hold sacred above almost all others: to remember. Into the great icon of ancestor-gold he carries, every triumph and every debt of the lodge is recorded, a walking saga that the Fyreslayers will defend to the last drop of blood. Where the Battlesmith raises his standard, warriors fight with redoubled fury, unwilling to let a single act of cowardice be inscribed beside their names for all eternity. He is no mere herald, for the Battlesmith is a seasoned warrior in his own right, wielding axe and hammer to protect the relic he bears. Should the icon fall, the shame would echo down the centuries, and so the lodge closes ranks about him like molten iron about a blade. In remembering the honoured dead, the Battlesmith gives the living a reason to die well.
