Vulcatrix was the greatest and most terrible of all magmadroths, a colossal fire-serpent worshipped and feared as the Mother of Salamanders and the living embodiment of the untamed volcanic fury of the realm of fire. From her molten spawn descended every magmadroth the Fyreslayers ride to this day, and in her prime she was a force of pure destruction, drowning whole mountain ranges beneath rivers of fire. When her rampages grew great enough to imperil the works of the gods, it was Grimnir who came to end her. Their duel is the founding myth of the Fyreslayers: god and monster locked in a struggle that split the earth and boiled the seas, until at last both were destroyed in a single cataclysmic blast. From that detonation the ur-gold was born, motes of Grimnir's shattered body fused with the elemental fire of Vulcatrix and scattered to the farthest corners of the realms. In slaying her, Grimnir unmade himself, and from their mingled ruin an entire people took up their eternal creed of fire and vengeance.
