Thanquol

Grey seers are the horned prophet-sorcerers of skavendom, bred to speak for the Great Horned Rat and trusted accordingly — which is to say, not at all. Thanquol is the most infamous of their order: a sorcerer of genuine, realm-cracking talent welded to an ego of still greater proportions, who has interpreted every catastrophe of his long career as either a divine test or somebody else's betrayal. Both interpretations are usually announced while the crater is still smoking.

He is never far from Boneripper, his towering rat ogor bodyguard — or rather, from the current Boneripper, for Thanquol expends them the way other seers expend incense. Each replacement is rebuilt more formidably than the last, and the latest is a four-armed colossus of Moulder flesh-craft and Skryre gunsmithing, fitted with roaring warpfire projectors and a loyalty its master has never once deserved.

The great mystery of Thanquol, debated in burrows from Blight City outward, is how he is still alive. His schemes have ruined clans, cities, and more than one of his own patrons, yet the ruin always seems to land one burrow over from where he is standing. Rivals whisper that the Horned Rat truly does favor him; the crueler whisper is that the god merely finds him entertaining, and is saving him for something special.
