Belthanos

Belthanos is the First Thorn of Kurnoth, the greatest and most favoured of all the hunter-spirits the Sylvaneth send against those who despoil the wilds. He is the living expression of the Everqueen Alarielle's wrath, called forth when a threat to the forests grows too grave for lesser spirits to answer. Belthanos rides to war upon a great forest stag, a noble beast of living wood and coiled muscle whose antlers gore and trample, while the First Thorn himself looses arrow after arrow with impossible speed, each shaft finding the eye or heart of its mark. Where he passes, the wild hunt follows, and the enemies of the wood are driven like frightened game until not one remains standing. Belthanos embodies the merciless patience of the predator; he does not rage, but hunts, tracking his quarry with cold and tireless purpose across ruined groves and blighted battlefields. To be marked by the First Thorn is to be already dead, for none who earn the Everqueen's enmity have ever outrun her chosen hunter.
