The Legion Rapier Weapons Battery was a formation of small tracked weapons carriers, each served by a crew of legionaries and mounting a heavy weapon such as a laser destroyer or quad launcher. In most Legions the Rapier was a simple, dependable tool; among the Thousand Sons it became one more discipline to be perfected through the union of study and sorcery. The adepts who crewed them treated gunnery as a science to be mastered, and where a diviner walked among the batteries their fire could be laid with prophetic precision, shells falling where the enemy would be rather than where he stood. It suited a Legion that abhorred waste and hoarded its warriors, letting a handful of gunners dominate a swathe of the battlefield. Even after the Edict of Nikaea sought to bind such gifts, the Legion's adepts found in these humble weapons yet another vessel for the foresight that was their birthright.
