The Legion prized that pursuit above the set-piece battle, understanding that a routed foe cut apart in his flight spread the tale of his ruin further than any stand. Crewed by warriors who savoured the chase, the Sicarans of the Eighth turned withdrawal into massacre and gave the fleeing no refuge in speed. In the wars of the Heresy they ran down loyalist columns and shattered rearguards, ensuring that to break before the Night Lords was not to escape them but merely to die tired.
