The Ogryn Charonites were among the most terrible troops a Solar Auxilia cohort could unleash, abhuman brutes remade by the Charon Pattern process into engines of close-quarters slaughter. Already massive and monstrously strong, these ogryns were surgically augmented with subcutaneous armour and their fists fused to powered blades and siege weapons, transforming loyal if simple-minded soldiers into living battering rams. The Auxilia loosed them where sheer violence was needed: the storming of breaches, the clearing of tunnels, and the brutal press of a boarding action, where their bulk could shatter an enemy formation outright. Sealed against the void like their masters, the Charonites fought in conditions that would kill an ordinary soldier, and their augmetic frames let them shrug off wounds that would fell a lesser warrior. Directed by their handlers with simple, brutal commands, they knew nothing of the war's grand designs, only the enemy before them and the raw joy of breaking it. In the close confines of a boarding ram, no foe wished to meet the Charonites.
