The Lasrifle Section was the unbreakable foundation upon which every Solar Auxilia cohort was built, the disciplined line infantry whose massed, methodical volleys ground down all who stood against the Great Crusade. Each soldier fought sealed within environment-hardened plate, proof against the vacuum, toxins, and lethal cold of the void wars in which the Auxilia specialised, and drilled until the loading and firing of the lasrifle became as unthinking as breathing. Individually they were mortal men, but the Auxilia did not fight as individuals; they fought as an unyielding wall of interlocking fire, holding their ground under bombardment that would rout ordinary regiments and advancing into the teeth of the enemy without a wavering step. Their sergeants and prefects enforced a discipline so absolute that a section would hold a doomed position to the last man rather than break formation. In the massed battles of the Heresy, it was these patient, faceless soldiers who held the line while the Legions delivered the killing blow.
