Oathbreaker of Faustine

Marren Sorr

The Horus Heresy

The Tribune whose cold loyalty to his commanders led the Faustine Cohort into treason, becoming a hated scourge of loyalist worlds.

Marren Sorr was the Tribune whose name became a byword for the tragedy of the Solar Auxilia, a gifted officer whose very virtues drove him to damnation. Devoted body and soul to the lords of the Faustine Cohort, Sorr followed them into rebellion without a moment's doubt, reasoning that loyalty to the men beside him outweighed any oath to a distant and unseen Emperor. It was a choice made not from malice but from a fierce, misplaced fidelity, and it made him no less a traitor for that.

As Tribune, Sorr became the cold engine of the Faustine's treachery, orchestrating the cohort's campaigns against worlds that refused to bend to Horus. He fought his former comrades with a bitter precision, as though determined to prove that the Faustine's fall had been strength rather than ruin, and his tactical brilliance made him a scourge wherever the cohort was unleashed. Loyalist Auxilia came to loathe him above almost any traitor, for he wore the same plate and spoke the same drill-cant, and knew every weakness of the men he now killed. Marren Sorr never repented, insisting to the last that he had simply kept faith, even as the honours he had forsaken tarnished on his banner.
