The Prosecutor Cadre was the ranged backbone of the Silent Sisterhood, a firing line of black-armoured Null-Maidens who met the enemy at distance and broke him before the greatblades closed. Each Sister bore a bolter she wielded with a marksman's cold discipline, and their massed volleys scythed through cultist, thrall and sorcerer alike. What made the Prosecutors more than a line of gunwomen was the pall of their blank souls: within reach of a cadre, a psyker's shielding wards failed, his powers guttered, and there was nothing left to turn aside the fusillade. They fought in near-silence, their fire shifting and concentrating at a flick of thoughtmark cant, and their discipline held against horrors that would rout ordinary soldiery. Through the Great Crusade and the Silent War that followed, the Prosecutor Cadre was the dependable anvil upon which the witch was broken.
