The Spartan Assault Tank was a massive armoured transport used by the Legiones Astartes throughout the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. Larger and far more heavily protected than the ubiquitous Land Raider, it was built to carry entire squads of Space Marines, even those clad in bulky Terminator plate, directly into the heart of the enemy.
Protected by thick ceramite and defended by sponson-mounted lascannon and a formidable hull weapon, the Spartan could weather punishing fire while delivering its cargo intact. Its sheer mass allowed it to grind through barricades and shrug off blows that would cripple lesser vehicles, making it the transport of choice for spearhead assaults and desperate breakthroughs.
The Iron Warriors and other siege-minded Legions prized the Spartan for its ability to breach fortified lines. On worlds such as those of the Isstvan campaigns, columns of Spartans carried the fate of Legions within their armoured hulls.
