Thousand Sons · Formation

Cult of Magic

The Cult of Magic is the fellowship of raw arcane power, home to the most destructive battle-sorcerers the Thousand Sons can field. Where other Cults pursue subtlety and schemes, its adepts pursue the direct and overwhelming application of the warp, channelling storms of eldritch fire and bolts of unmaking that reduce armour, flesh and fortification alike to drifting ash. They are the burning heart of the Legion's armies, and where they walk the very air ignites with unleashed sorcery.

The adepts of the Cult of Magic disdain the slow patience of prophecy and the riddling of the time-seers, holding that true power lies in the naked force of the immaterium wielded without hesitation. Theirs is the most aggressive of the sorcerous disciplines, and its practitioners are the deadliest weapons in any Thousand Sons host.

In battle they hurl coruscating flame that clings and consumes, loose bolts of pure change that twist their victims into gibbering horrors, and call down storms of arcane lightning that scour whole formations from the field. Their mastery of the warp is such that they can channel far greater power than a lone sorcerer should safely bear, and the most gifted among them wreathe themselves in visible corona of unleashed energy as they walk to war.

Such reckless drawing upon the immaterium is perilous even to the initiated. Every spell risks the attention of the warp's predators and the treacherous backlash of overreach, and the annals of the Cult are filled with sorcerers consumed by the very power they sought to command. Yet for the Thousand Sons, who measure worth in mastery of the arcane, the Cult of Magic remains a source of both pride and terror, the fellowship whose members burn brightest and, all too often, burn out.
