The Masque of the Midnight Sorrow is among the darkest of all the Harlequin troupes, a masque that dwells upon the tragedy of the Aeldari fall more deeply than any other. Its players are drawn often from the shadowed paths that lead to Commorragh, and something of the Dark City's cruelty clings to them. Where other masques leaven their performances with mischief and defiance, the Midnight Sorrow performs the Fall itself, the hubris, the excess and the birth of She Who Thirsts, with a raw and terrible intensity that can drive mortal audiences to madness.
In battle the masque fights with cold, vengeful precision. Its warriors clad themselves in holo-suits of deep midnight blue shot through with veins of bruised violet, and they move through the enemy like a spreading stain, each death a note in a dirge of retribution. The Midnight Sorrow harbours a particular hatred for the servants of Slaanesh, for they embody the very catastrophe the masque enacts, and its players hunt them through the webway with single-minded purpose.
Those few who have watched the Midnight Sorrow dance and survived speak of a beauty so sorrowful it felt like drowning, and of blades that fell like the closing of a tragic final act.
