The Laughing God

Cegorach

The trickster deity of the Aeldari and the last of their gods to walk free, who fled the birth of Slaanesh laughing and has plotted the downfall of the Great Enemy ever since.

Cegorach is the Laughing God, the trickster of the Aeldari pantheon and the last of their gods to walk free. When the birth of Slaanesh devoured the Aeldari deities, only two escaped, Ynnead, who slumbers, and Cegorach, who fled laughing into the webway with the Great Enemy at his heels. There, legend holds, he took refuge in the Black Library and has plotted the downfall of She Who Thirsts ever since, weaving a design so vast and subtle that not even his own servants grasp its whole shape.

God of misdirection, defiance and hope, Cegorach embodies the refusal of the Aeldari to despair. His Harlequins are his players and his agents, enacting his myths and enacting his schemes, and it is said that he sometimes walks among them unseen, a masked figure at the back of the troupe whose steps are just a little too perfect. Where he treads, fate bends and enemies stumble into ruin of their own making.

Stories tell of the Laughing God outwitting Khaine, cheating Death, and stealing secrets from the Dark Gods themselves. Whether myth or truth, they capture his essence, the trickster who laughs where others weep, and who alone dares to believe the long night of his people might one day end.
